Perhaps, despite my long career in technology and media, I’m a secret Luddite. I hate them, but I don’t know why I hate them. They are far more readable and offer a much better reading experience! The Internet Archive individual book download page Step 5 – Download ![]() In our experience, it is far better to download the PDF version, which is a direct scan of the book. They contain mistakes, misplaced letters and are generally (although not always) very irritating and difficult to read. There is a whole host of different options – you might think that EPUB would be the one to go for, but in our experience, the EPUB versions are automatic OCR (Optical character recognition) versions and are often very inaccurate. There is a readable preview of the book – useful for checking the quality of the book. Once you do so, you will get to a page like the one below So, you can now select the version of the book you want by clicking on it. The Internet Archive search results, narrowed down Step 4 – Choose the correct format – IMPORTANT! Now we have books that we can download for free. Once you have ticked these 2 boxes, you can see below that the selection goes from around 3,000 items to around 50. Many of the books at The Internet Archive are not actually freely available to the general viewer.
